Vale John Swan
It is with great sorrow that the Board of the WPSP notes the passing of
our founding Chairman and more recently, Patron, Emeritus Professor John
Swan AO, on June 15th 2015.
We pay great tribute to his tireless efforts to champion the cause of protecting Western Port.
Throughout his time of leadership of the Western Port Seagrass Partnership John had been a continual source of inspiration and guidance, and his intellect and extensive experience in the field of science helped shape the founding principles and objectives of our organisation and its continuing work to protect Western Port..
"Western Port is a wonderful natural treasure that we have an
obligation to protect and pass onto future generations. It was good
science during the Shapiro study that revealed the diversity and
complexity of this wonderful ecosystem and it will be good science that
will show us the way to protect it. The Western Port Seagrass
Partnership is the champion of good science and it has my full support
in playing the role of wise guardian, giving a premium to rational
evaluation over emotive responses or the spin of vested interests."
